Psychospiritual counselling – What is it?
I wish to speak to you about the meaning of being human, our fragilities, and how psychospiritual counselling combining, psychology and spirituality, helps us heal and flourish as humans.
We all have our ideas of what it means to be human. We all grapple with our bodies and souls. Even, our experiences.
I view humanity as being at home with my vulnerabilities, fragilities, brokenness, or truths imperfect as they are.
I believe that to be human means to ‘touch my pains,’ befriend them and allow my pains to become the means to reconnect to self, others or a Higher Power, Force or Energy.
Teilhard de Chardin’s definition of ‘human’ speaks to me. He said, “We’re not just humans going through life; we’re spiritual beings having a human experience.”
Psychospiritual counselling is a therapy that combines psychology and spirituality.
I feel that psychospiritual counselling is a recognition that our crisis of values, purpose or meaning in life is a spiritual emergency that affects our mental health wellbeing.
For me, psychospiritual counselling is about touching my pain, healing, growing, and discovering my true self.
Lastly, psychospiritual counselling is about learning to reconnect to self, others, the universe, or something greater than us.
By way of conclusion, defined psychospiritual counselling within the context of our frail humanity and the crisis of meaning or purpose.
In the next blog, I will explore what is a spiritual emergency.
